Full disclosure here - Jen Geigley is a good friend of mine, and I've been in love with the knits she designs for many years. When she let it slip that she was writing her first knitwear book, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it - knowing Jen, I was sure her book would be full of wearable, fun to knit pieces that I would want to make on repeat.
I definitely wasn't wrong - Weekend is like my perfect knitting book! Full of knits you can make in a weekend and wear all weekend long, Weekend is ALSO full to the brim with charity-friendly patterns! Here's what Jen has to say about her debut book:
'Weekend' is a collection of 12 simple, modern knits for women, men and children. Knits you can live in on the weekend; knits you can create in a weekend. Knit using bulky and super bulky yarn, these sweaters and accessories exude comfort and ease. My mission is to create casual, contemporary, wearable hand knits that can serve as foundation pieces in anyone’s wardrobe. Approachable patterns that aren’t too complex, making knitters say, “I want to make that!” I’m a minimalist at heart and I truly believe less is more, and simple is good. To me, simple equals wearable. Simple equals doable. And there’s no greater satisfaction than finishing a hand-knit piece, trying it on and falling in love with it. My goal as a knitter is to make go-to pieces that feel just right, like my favorite soft gray pullover from college. If you spend precious time knitting a garment, you want to love it and wear it a lot. It’s as simple as that. That, to me, is the definition of hand-knit success. And that’s what I hope to share with you in this collection.
The collection comes stuffed full with 12 designs I can't wait to get on my needles; having to choose which piece to start with might be the only thing I don't like about the book! Here's just a few of the pieces from the collection that I know I'll be making on repeat for charity this fall and winter ...
Atmosphere is the ultimate quick knit, made with two strands of super bulky yarn held together, using size 35 needles! I want to see how this one looks with two different color strands held together - the perfect way to bust through some of my super bulky stash!!
Oh man, do I love to make hats for little ones, and Distortion might just become my new favorite! It doesn't hurt that the model is adorable (Jen's daughter Lotus!), either! I love to make kids' hats with a bit of a modern twist, because I firmly believe kids want to be fashionable no matter what their life issue is - whether I'm donating to a pediatric cancer ward or a homeless shelter, those kids want to wear what's on-trend, too, and Distortion will help them do that!
Distortion pairs perfectly with Feedback, a kid-sized cowl that I'm thinking about sizing up for me as well! I love the tiny detail of contrast stitching added to both patterns ... I can imagine countless options for this one!
Scarves are a totally underrated knit, don't you think? I always try to include at least one in my donation packages, and Floor is about to become my standard scarf to give! It's designed for both men and women, and the extra-long shape can be pared down for donation if you prefer, or made as-is for a funky scarf perfect for donation to an oncology ward or charity auction!
And that's not even half of the amazing patterns! There's so much more goodness to be made, each pattern really and truly being the perfect weekend knit! Check out the Weekend look book for more peeks at the entire collection!
