Trimonthly Crochet for Charity is honoring our veterans who live in State Veteran Homes by crocheting /knitting /sewing lapghans, shawls, and bags for walkers and wheelchairs for their personal use. Also, crocheted 8” squares are needed. They will to be assembled into lapghans. These items will provide warmth and a sense of security for our veterans.
Each state has at least one veterans home. Others have two or more. For example, Oklahoma has six. The number of state veteran homes depends on the state’s population.
There is a critical need for more nursing care facilities. This is due to the following data provided by Senior Veterans Service Alliance. Currently, there are about 10 million veterans who are 65 and over. This is about 39 percent of all the veterans in America. This proportion will remain unchanged for the next 20 years.
With this in mind, this current project is one way that we can bring comfort to our vets residing in State Veterans Home. Presently, the NH Veterans Home located in Tilton, NH, has been the recipient of many crafted items made by our members. We hope to expand this project to include the VT Veterans Home in Bennington, VT, in 2016 or sooner.
